Avatar – an imaged used to represent an internet user

 
Blog – a portmanteau of a Web Log – messages posted in time order but displayed in reverse order with the most recent at the top of the list.
 
Chat room – a place to send and receive text messages to people instantly
 
Download – to move or transfer electronic date from the internet to your computer
 
Event Calendar – A scheduled occasion with a date and / or start time
 
File / Document – a way of storing information
 
Forum – a place to discuss topics
 
Front Page – the first page of the NFS Portal – this page show snippets of information from different parts of the website, including Events, Blogs and News
 

Hypertexts/ hyperlinks – text on a web page that links to another page or image

 
Internet – a series of interlinked computer networks available world wide
 
Login – a way of getting access to files on a computer program
 
Moderator - a person who oversees the posting and activity of the website
 
Portmanteau – Two or more words that are joined to give a loaded meaning. Eg guestimate – from guess and estimate
 
Post - a message added to an internet blog or forum
 
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) – a summary of recently changed or added of content from a website. RSS Feeds can be subscribed to and the information sent directly to the user
 
Upload – to move or transfer electronic date from your computer to the internet
 
URL (Ultimate Resource Locator)
– a way to identify an electronic resource. The URL is usually entered into the Address Bar of a web browser. The
URL may locate a website or a file on the website
 
User – a person using a website or computer system
 
Web Browser – Software that allows the user to display and interact with electronic information on a web page such as text, images, movies, music etc.
 
Web Page – a resource of information that can be displayed on the World Wide Web
 
Website - a collection of Web pages that is available by the internet
 
www – a system of documents linked via the internet. Links are often on hypertexts or images
