Our aim is to increase the children’s competence and confidence in oral and writing skills. The Scheme of work integrates the requirements of the National Curriculum with the National Literacy Strategy.
Speaking and listening skills are necessary for the development of sound communication; clarity of expression, attentiveness and a wider vocabulary all result from activities such as drama and speaking or performing publicly in assemblies.
Reading is encouraged throughout Grange, some time each day is set aside for this activity throughout the school. Books are provided, suited to every reading ability, children of low ability are helped individually to increase their fluency, particularly in Year 3, when they first enter our school.
Writing: the children are helped to develop legible and consistent handwriting, grammatical construction, punctuation and spelling. Creativity is strongly encouraged, and the children learn to write differently for a variety of purposes and audiences.
